How to get out of your comfort zone?

What is a Comfort zone?

A Comfort zone is a situation in which a person feels comfortable where their ability and determination are not tested. It is a situation where someone feels comfortable, acceptable, and confident. Having a comfortable zone gives us safety and security, it helps us to stay calm, helps us to stay emotionally stable and even free from anxiety and worry-free to a greater extent.


Advantages of the comfort zone
  • It allows a person to participate in similar activities in which they have participated earlier.

  • It also helps a person to draw on experiences that they have gained in their past performances.

  • Helps to reduce risks as when a person tackles a familiar task in their comfort zone, they become aware of the risks and know how to avoid them.

  • If an activity/ task is in your comfort zone, chances are that a person can complete it quickly and easily without spending much time on it

  • Being in a comfort zone for too long makes a person confident and reduces anxiety. When a person succeeds in their past task, it gives them self-assurance in addressing similar undertakings in the future.


Disadvantages of the comfort zone
  • Not learning new skills, you neglect the chance to develop new skills. In taking new risks a person works on new skills and spends time improving relative weaknesses.

  • Holding back if a person doesn't perform activities that somewhat challenge them, they miss out on the opportunity for growth.

  • A person can become disappointed with their performance if they don't complete their task which makes a person more depressed and anxious.

  • It can be time-consuming if a person tries to learn a new skill/task. If it takes more time than expected then it makes a person irritated.

  • A person can lose some friends by leaving their comfort zone, this can make a person feel alone, which can make a person feel less confident.


Signs to come out of your Comfort zone
  • A person is unhappy and they don't know why- If a person feels like that they don't feel it because of ordinary and usual things. A person wants something different, a new experience, or a new challenge.

  • Doubting yourself if a person doesn't know how good or how capable they are. Somewhere it leads to self-doubt and negative self-talk.

  • A person can predict what will happen in the future, he/she can probably predict what their routine will look like tomorrow, and the day after, and so on. There will be nothing daily that will surprise the person.

  • A person may avoid any conflicts, if a person is familiar with all the tasks conflicts, then he/she will not face any conflict. So having some amount of conflict is necessary for realizing one's potential.

  • Instead of making things happen, a person lets things happen to them, it does not bring any surprise to them because they are intentionally making things happen to them rather than things happening to them automatically.


Ways to get out of one's comfort zone

Making changes in the daily routine

It is important to make changes in the daily routine; to experience something new, as doing ordinary things daily makes the person bored. For example: Walking for pleasure is kind of a lost art, making some effort to bring something new daily to get out of one's comfort zone.


Learning something new

It is a great idea to get out of one's comfort zone. For example: Learning to play a musical instrument is a great option for a new experience. Ride a horse all these things can be added to discover something new.


Do something nice for someone

Try to do one nice thing for someone every day. It feels good to do something for another person. One can also spend some free time volunteering.


Do a physical/ mental change

To get out of your comfort zone, A person can make a physical change such as involving in a physical program and diet plan with help of a physician. Physical exercise can also boost mental health. This will help a person to change a lot.


Face Fears

Facing your fears can help a person to change a lot and helps them to come out of their comfort zone. For example, Public speaking is a fear for everyone. So try this in your school to overcome your fear.


One step at a time

It is said that the longest journey starts with a single step and this is true, every single step counts, so don't be afraid to from today, it is necessary to make a move and see the difference.


Compare the worst and the Best possible outcomes

Ask yourself, "What's the worst that could happen"? And then "What Best thing can happen to you". Both of these questions should help a person address their fears and discomforts.


Revisit your greatest accomplishment

Accomplishments are often made because of courage. By revisiting our greatest successes, we remember that courage is what got us there, so remember this and make an effort to learn something new.


Talking to your friends helps

There's no reason a person can't rely on their friends and family to help them get out of their comfort zone. Pick someone who can help you to learn something different.


Practice meditation to relieve stress

Do meditation, yoga, practice deep breathing, as you breathe in, and picture yourself also taking confidence in. This will help you relax and enjoy life's new challenges.
